Tier 1 – Graduate Entrepreneur Visa

This route is for Graduates who have graduated in the UK or abroad who have been officially endorsed as having a genuine and credible business idea. You must be endorsed by either the Department for International Trade (DIT) as part of the elite global graduate Entrepreneur Program (Sirius) or a UK Higher Education Institution (HEI) that is an authorised endorsing body.

We can advise you in detail on the eligibility criteria which will depend on who is endorsing you.

If successful, you will be granted Leave to Enter or Remain in the UK for 1 year. This can be extended by another year.

At the end of your two years as a Graduate Entrepreneur, you may be able to switch into the Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) category if your business is successful.

You can apply to switch from another visa to a Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa if you are already in the UK as a:

  • Student
  • Student Nurse
  • Student re-sitting an examination
  • Student writing up thesis
  • Tier 4 (General) visa holder
  • Postgraduate doctor or dentist  

Tier 2 (General) Migrant working as a post-doctoral researcher

Family Members (dependents)

Your spouse or partner and children under 18 can come with you to the UK on this visa.

A total of 2000 places are allocated on the Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) Scheme each year and applications must be submitted within 3 months of the date of the endorsement.

You will need to prove that you speak and understand English to a required standard and that you have sufficient maintenance – funds to support yourself and your dependents.
